At the time I was waiting tables at Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, FL. I was a cocktail waitress in the VIP lounge, which is Jimi Hendrix themed. I think staring at music memorabilia all day probably soaked my brain with that vibe. One day as I was leaving to go to work I saw a pile of cassette tapes laying on top of a canvas I had set near my door. I thought, “What ghosts could be hiding in those machines?” I pulled out the ribbon and tried to work with it, making some writing. I watched the ribbon curl up and it reminded me of Jimi Hendrix’s crazy hair, so that was the first portrait I made. I had never sold a piece of artwork. But selling was never that important… discovering is the fun part. by Erika Iris

Site 2!

The second site I wanted to visit was boy’s village. This is an area located between St.Athans and Barry. Boy’s village is a holiday camp style-village.

In the 1925 it was opened as a camp offered an escape for the sons of coal miners at the time. On site included a swimming pool, dining hall, church, workshops and dormitories.

In 1940 the camp was used for the military but was then returned to civilian use in 1945.

The land has been derelict for about 30years now. I am aware of the number of illegal raves happened at this site. Therefore this is perfect for my style for the project.

I turned up with my father to take photos and sketches of the site. Once I arrived there other people were also filming and photographing the site. I was informed that the land had been sold and was going to be bordered up the next day. This was my last chance to photograph it.

I will post on here the final photographs I have taken.
